5 out of 5 stars delightful Midge and Allan vintage reproduction   March 6, 2009

Limited to only 6,710 pieces worldwide, this vintage Barbie reproduction set marks the 45th anniversary of Midge, Barbie's perennial best friend! This set also marks the first time that Midge's boyfriend Allan has been reproduced for the collector market.

Dressed in a recreation of "Swingin' Easy" (stock no. #955 from 1963), a green frock with patterned white flowers and green sash, Midge looks a treat with her brunette flip hairstyle and mischievous freckles. She also carries a smart white clutch purse.

Allan comes dressed in "Campus Hero" (stock no. #700 from 1961), a striped knitted sweater teamed with white slacks and matching loafers. The set comes complete with a backdrop of the original Campus Sweetshop playset, featuring a cardboard stool and tray of milkshakes. Definitely a must-own for vintage completists and those who missed them the first time around, Midge and Allan will enliven any vintage Barbie collection.

This is a wonderful set for the collector or non-collector.
Just brings back the memories we all have of the original
Midge and Alan and the parties of our high school years.
A must have for sure!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars The old is new again!   May 20, 2009

These dolls are such nice repros to have been brought back for a return appearance. And who doesn't want Midge and Allen, best friends of Barbie and Ken, to complete the "family doll" scene and show us the importance of friends? Did we really dress like that?? ;) They aren't what I would call "beautiful" but they are certainly cute enough for display or play.

5 out of 5 stars An eye for detail   April 9, 2010

I have always been facinated by the Barbie doll. I never had enough of them when I was a girl. I usually got the hand-me-down, busted- up one from an older girl cousin, a markdown discounted doll, or a faux Barbie knock-off. I seldom had the chance to experience the joy of getting a brand new in-box Barbie. I Started collecting Barbie and her Friends in full force about 15 years ago, but I found that I prefer the Reproduction and Gold label Barbies now. When I saw Campus Sweet Shop I knew I had to have it. The price was just irresistable and I had purchased Campus Queen Barbie last year. So now I was working on another Barbie World theme. The detail paid to each doll is what I used to hear about in the collector magazines. They would talk about the detail on the clothes, and the hairstyles on the doll, and how other Fashion Dolls always paled in comparison.I leave my new collectables in their boxes now.The Repro-dolls come in wider boxes now with the cardboard "scenes" that make it nice to display the dolls on your wall in the box. Many new boxes are easier to open so you can "inspect" the Barbie and feel the details first hand.I always loved retro fashion, and I used to make these type of clothes for my dolls. These reproductions are getting more authentic and detailed.
