Customer Reviews: She finally arrived! March 19, 2009 Debbie Behan Garrett (Dallas, TX USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The African American 1959 Debut Barbie is absolutely gorgeous! I love her deep, caramel brown complexion and her up-to-date, black and white, sequined bathing suit. Her genuine Silkstone body adds to her originality, authenticity, and appeal. The colorful, fashion-illustrated box reminds me of the actual Barbie boxes and the fashions that I enjoyed dressing my original brunette bubblecut Barbie and other Barbies in as a child.
Even though I had to wait 50 years to own an authentic, African American, #1 Barbie dressed in a black and white bathing suit, I am happy that she arrived during my lifetime. Thank you Mattel for finally getting it right.

1959 Barbie April 24, 2009 L. Palmer She's cute, classy and very well made. However, Mattel (via Mr. Robert West) would have it no other way.
A MUST HAVE! May 21, 2010 Bookish (PENN) If you are thinking of starting a Barbie Doll collection, this is a MUST HAVE. If you just want one Barbie and can't decide which one to get, this is a MUST HAVE! (BlK or White) it looks so much better in person. To make it even more collectable it is no longer available on the Barbie website, It's the first of it's kind and it is limited to only 6,500. That is nothing in the Barbie world. Don't wait for those higher second market prices. GET IT NOW! I wish I could have gotten more.
